The Ormond Beach Police Department will be participating in the 2016 National Drug Take Back Initiative Oct. 22 to provide an opportunity for the public to voluntarily surrender expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutically controlled substances and other medications to law enforcement officers for proper destruction.

Many Americans do not know how to properly dispose of their unused medicine, often flushing them down the toilet or throwing them away – both potential safety and health hazards. The event also aims to the high rate of prescription drug abuse and accidental overdoses.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ormond Beach Police Department, 170 W. Granada Blvd. The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is also participating in the event at the agency’s district headquarters in Ormond Beach, located at 1435 U.S. Highway 1, Suite D-3.
