Holy Dormition Church blesses the Halifax River

The blessing was done in honor of the baptism of Jesus.

A handful of parishioners of Holy Dormition Byzantine Catholic Church, along with their parish priest, Reverand Vincent Brady, braved the frigid temperatures and the hallowing winter winds, to celebrate the Theophany — baptism of Jesus Christ in the River Jordan.

The celebration included a procession to the edge of the Halifax River in Fortunato Park Jan. 8. The ceremony concluded with a cross made of ice, thrown into the waters.
