12:52 p.m. — 400 block of W. Granada Blvd.
Arrest. A 41-year-old Tallahassee woman was arrested after giving police a false name and age as well as knowingly driving with a suspended license.
Police observed the woman crash into a raised curb of the road and stop, before continuing east on Granada. A police officer conduced a traffic stop on the vehicle in order to check on the woman’s wellbeing, believing her to be impaired in some way. The woman told police there was a spider on her leg, causing her to run off the road and kill it since she is deathly afraid of them. The officer was then informed by dispatch that there was a seize tag order on the vehicle’s license plate.
The officer asked the woman for her information, but she asked him if he could just give her a warning. She finally told police her name was Kelli L. Matthews and that she was 45, but police could not find a record under that name.
The woman then told police “You know, my sister said this would catch up to me. I have been lying about my age for so long. I’m actually 46.”
She spelled the fake alias differently, but still police couldn’t find a record for her. Ultimately, the woman gave police her real name, and the officer found she had a warrant out of Leon County for possession of drug paraphernalia.
4:46 a.m. — First block of W. Granada Blvd.
Arrest. Police arrested a 57-year-old man for going #2 near the Grind Gastro Pub. The man was found squatting near a bush, with his pants around his ankles as he defecated.
Police report they’ve had a problem with people defecating in the general area. When police asked the man if he had any communicable diseases, he told them he had Hepatitis C, which presents a risk of infection to the general public. Police note that there was an open Sunoco nearby where the man could have used their restroom.
2:53 a.m. — 500 block of S. Ridgewood Ave.
Arrest. A 21-year-old man was arrested after breaking into a woman’s car and stealing a $70 TomTom GPS.
The man was spotted by police looking into vehicles in the area of Seville Street and Cordova Avenue. He continued walking until being stopped in S. Ridgewood Avenue where police conducted an investigatory stop
Police noticed an “abnormal bulge” in the man’s right pocket, and the man replied it was a GPS he got from his girlfriend. He later changed his story and said the GPS was his mother’s, and then changed to say it was his.
The man continued to alter his story and told police “you can’t prove I stole it. I was just caught with it.”
Police turned the GPS on and returned it to its rightful owner by following the directions given after pressing the home icon on the device.
