The Ormond Beach Police Department discovered the body of a 28-year-old man in the Halifax River on Wednesday night. The victim had been reported missing by his girlfriend the day before.

The body belongs to Ormond Beach resident Luis Roberto Miranda, who was last seen by his girlfriend leaving their apartment to skate at 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23. Police reported Miranda was known to skate at night and frequented both The Trails and the Granada Bridge. When he failed to return home that night, his girlfriend contacted law enforcement.

Police reported that preliminary findings indicate that Miranda's "fatal injuries may have occurred as a result of an accidental fall." Officer Keith Walker said in an email that police believe he fell from the Granada Bridge.

No foul play is suspected, and Miranda did not use narcotics and was not known to be depressed. OBPD's investigation is ongoing.

This is a developing story. Miranda's family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with his funeral costs.
