The Volusia Flagler Association for Women Lawyers (VFAWL) announced that Kelly H. Chanfrau of Ormond Beach as its 2017 “Woman of the Year.”

The award honors Chanfrau, a partner at Chanfrau & Chanfrau law firm, for her contributions as an attorney, and also her work in the community and for her prominent role as an advocate for women’s rights.

“I have admired Kelly since we were in junior high school. She is someone that I never hesitate to seek counsel from,” said Erum Kistemaker, president of VFAWL. “Kelly is a jewel in our community who tirelessly mentors other female lawyers locally, and is very committed to our community. She has broken many glass ceilings in our profession.”

Chanfrau is Board Certified by the Florida Bar as an Expert in Labor Employment Law, an honor achieved by less than seven percent of Florida Bar members. She has represented both individuals and Fortune 500 Companies in a wide array of industries before state courts, and federal courts in Florida, Alabama and Texas.

A Daytona Beach native, Chanfrau received her Juris Doctorate from Stetson University College of Law, with honors, in 2001. She is also a graduate of Florida State University, cum laude.

“It is a tremendous professional and personal compliment to receive this honor from my peers in the Volusia/Flagler area,” Chanfrau said. “I’m very proud of my work as an advocate for my clients and women in the workplace.”
