The Ormond By The Sea Lions donated hundreds of dollars and diabetic screenings in October; the humane society roped in $3,500 during a bike event; the veterans museum is looking for a new home; and more.

Ormond by the Sea Lions keep busy in October

Ormond By The Sea Lions Club President Frank White presented a $300 check to Amy Soileau, Florida Diabetes Camp outreach director, Oct. 16, following the success of the club’s used book sale in August. Members also worked at the camp’s Daytona Beach Home Show booth this month, giving free diabetic screenings to more than 250 people.

Also this month, Lions sponsored a free “Your Steps to Successful Disaster Management” seminar at Riverview United Methodist Church, featuring emergency directors and officials from throughout the county.

Humane society raises $3,500 through bike event

About 175 riders spent the first day of Biketoberfest at Halifax Humane Society’s Ruff Ride, helping to raise $3,500 for pet services.

Bikers participated in a poker run this year’s, stopping at The Hideaway, Giuseppe’s Pizza, First Turn, the BFFAR and the Iron Horse Saloon.

Vets museum looks for a new home

John Brinkley, of the Veterans Museum Education Center, is currently looking for a new home with more space and exposure for the military tribute currently stationed at City Hall. The display features manequins in full military garb.

The Ormond Beach Senior Center, at 351 Andrews St., will host a jewelry sale 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Nov. 1, with handmade items, as well as precious stones. Call 676-3256.

Cub Scouts Pack 74, Den 17, took a tour of The Casements Oct. 12. The trip’s highlight was the facility’s Boy Scout exhibit, which features decades of Scout memorabilia.
