Police deal with a variety of crimes

Jan. 5

Toting stolen goods

3:32 p.m. — 1500 Block of West Granada Boulevard

Petit Theft. The suspect placed several items in a large tote, which healso got from the shelf. In the self-checkout, the suspect purchased most of the items but did not purchase the tote.

 

Jan. 7

Big night out

12:30 a.m. — 600 S. Atlantic Avenue

Petit Theft. The victim said her husband of 36 years, the suspect, age 60, took a credit card out of her purse and used it at a gentlemen’s club in Daytona Beach against her will. She said she did not give permission to use her card and most definitely not at a gentlemen’s club. She said she wished to pursue charges and he was transported to the county jail.

 

Jan. 10

Bad choice for driver

4:03 a.m. — 100 Block of South Yonge Street

Operating with Suspended License. An officer saw a car that had been reported driving recklessly earlier. The dispatcher informed the officer that the car’s registration was expired.

After stopping the car, the officer found that the driver only had a Florida ID card. His driver’s license had been suspended for multiple reasons including DUI, failure to pay traffic fines.

There were three passengers. When asked why he was driving, the suspect said he was the designated driver.

 

Check doctoring

7:57 a.m. — 700 Block of West Granada Boulevard

Fraud. The business director said she discovered a paycheck had been altered. She had issued a check for $157, and the worker had altered the check to read $2,157. The numeric line had a “2” added; and the word “twenty” was added in front of “one hundred fifty seven.”

The check was endorsed by the suspect who is no longer an employee. The victim provided two possible addresses for the suspect, both out of state.

 

Mysterious roofer

12:31 p.m. — 300 Block of Grove Street

Theft. The victim had some damage to the roof and the landlord said he would take care of it. On a later day, an unknown male came to the residence saying he was to work on the roof. They talked briefly and when the victim went into the kitchen he heard the front door close. He noticed the male was gone and his wallet was also gone.

The landlord said he did not know who the suspect was.

 

Off-road dirt biking

11:59 p.m. — 500 Block of Cherrywood Drive

Loitering. Witnesses saw a suspicious male checking car doors and looking into vehicles at multiple residences. He was last seen walking onto a nature trail in Central Park and was wearing a black hoodie, camouflage pants and gloves.

Officers began canvassing the neighborhood and a loud dirt park started up on the nature trail. The driver exited the trail driving recklessly and turned westbound on Hammock Lane. An officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop but the bike fled.

The bike driver turned off the lights and drove recklessly, crashing when he came to Old Kings Road. The driver quickly got back on the bike. Officers lost sight of the bike after it turned on Hand Avenue.

The area was checked for signs of vehicle burglaries with negative results.
