Electricity not free
7:10 a.m. — 100 Block of South Halifax Drive
Theft. The victim showed the police officer an extension cord which has been plugged into an outlet on the outside of his house. It ran through the back porch of the neighboring house, and then into the house.
The officer asked the neighbor about the extension cord, and she said there was no electricity in the house, and she using the victim’s outlet to watch TV. She said she did not know it was theft.
The victim did not pursue charges, but asked that the suspect be trespassed from his property. The extension cord was removed, and the suspect said she would not go on the victim’s property.
Fishing for answers
12:02 p.m. — 1500 Block of West Granada Boulevard
Petit Theft. The suspect was seen placing several packages of fishing line in her purse at a value of $285.85.
In a post-Miranda interview, the officer asked if she intended to steal when she entered the store, and she said no. Asked if she made the decision when she entered the fishing line aisle, she said yes. Asked if anyone was with her, she said her boyfriend. Asked if she and her boyfriend run a fishing business, she said yes.
From trailer to Lexus
2:19 p.m. — 1000 Block of South Nova Road
Stolen Tag. The victim said he realized a tag was stolen when he received a red light camera citation from Dade County. It had been stolen from a trailer on the property of his business. The red light camera showed the tag on a white Lexus.
July 2
Anybody home?
6:19 p.m. — 1500 Block of San Marco Drive
Burglary. The victim was home alone when someone knocked on the door. She looked through the peep hole and did not recognize the two males so did not open the door.
Moments later she saw one of the suspects approach the sliding door to the patio and attempt to open it by forcefully yanking on the handle. She immediately called police.
There were fresh pry marks on the door but the victim said they were there prior to the incident. The victim’s husband arrived and said the description matched someone who had been to the house.
July 2
Suspicious home shopper?
5:25 p.m. — 200 Block of Greenwood Avenue
Suspicious Incident. A neighbor called police, and said he saw a pickup truck parked in the driveway of a house. He said a male got out and walked around the outside of at the house. He did not know if he went around back.
The officer went around back and saw that the sliding door was partly open. The residence was checked by officers to make sure no one was inside.
The owner appeared at the scene and said the board he uses to block the back door shut was upright next to the door as if not put back in place. Nothing appeared to be disturbed.
The house is vacant and up for sale. The owner said it was normal for people to stop at the house and look at it.
