Regular church-goer

10 a.m. — First Block of South Halifax Drive

Burglary of an Occupied Dwelling, Grand Theft. The suspect entered a church through the side doors and then entered a office. He removed a wallet from a purse, which was sitting on the floor by a desk. The suspect used stolen the credit cards to make five transactions at two locations. He bought a ring and later pawned it for $75.

The officer used surveillance video to send a “be-on-the-lookout,” and he heard from three agencies who said he was also a suspect in thefts of wallets from churches in Port Orange, Daytona Beach and Daytona Beach Shores.

He was found at the Daytona Beach Pier by an officer from Daytona Beach Shores and an Ormond Beach officer. He was arrested after a search of his vehicle revealed the Florida Pawnbroker Transaction Form for the fraudulently obtained ring that was pawned.

Doggone purse

3:13 p.m. — First Block of Loyola Drive

Burglary. The victim said she was leaving to run errands when her dog started begging to go outside. She placed her purse on a chair by the front door to take the dog on a quick walk, leaving the door unlocked.

When she returned after 20 minutes, the purse was gone. She suspected a neighbor who had been over in the past to borrow money so she would not miss her probation meeting.

The neighbor said she was in the backyard working. The officer asked the suspect if her fingerprints would be on the door, and she said yes because she had been over in the past couple of days.

The officer advised the victim to park her car in the garage until she could get it rekeyed. Also, she had to notify her place of employment because a door key to the business was in the purse.

Taking a turn on two wheels

2:30 a.m. — South Atlantic Avenue and Granada Boulevard

Reckless Driving An officer at the Granada Beach approach heard a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. He then saw the speeding car turn onto East Granada Boulevard from State Road A1A. He reported that the car was nearly on two wheels and did a burnout as it turned. It then traveled down East Granada Boulevard at an estimated 65 mph in a 35 mph zone.

Two other officers were on the west side of the bridge and they estimated the speed at 55 mph as it went through the intersection.

A traffic stop was made at U.S. 1. While speaking with the driver, a female, and the passenger, a male, the officer noted it was apparent they had been drinking alcoholic beverages. They said they had just met that night.

The driver performed sobriety exercises sufficiently but she was arrested for reckless driving. The car was released to a friend who picked it up.
