Since a loss to Spruce Creek in the first meet of the season, both the boys and girls swim teams at Seabreeze have won every meet since.

Before any swimmers pushed off the wall at the Frieda Zamba Swimming Pool, in Palm Coast, Seabreeze coach Katie Corby told her team not to be afraid.

“You have to be uncomfortable if you want to swim fast,” she told her team, as they huddled around her before the first event.

They listened. And it worked.

Both the Sandcrabs boys and girls swept Flagler Palm Coast and Matanzas high schools in the tri-meet.

The boys team defeated FPC, 94-68, and Matanzas, 116-38. The girls team defeated FPC, 96-66, and Matanzas, 93-76.

Corby’s team has won every meet this season except for the season-opener against Spruce Creek.

But, at Frieda Zamba, there is no diving in to begin a race, and so swimmers start in the water. But Corby didn’t want to hear any of her swimmers make excuses.

“I didn’t want them to think that that was an excuse or reason not to give it 100% effort or swim any race any differently than they would if they were starting from the blocks,” she said.

Next up, Seabreeze will compete in the 5-Star Conference meet Saturday, Oct. 12, in Port Orange.

“Every meet, we are seeing improvements and drops in times — in both individual races and relays,” Corby said.
