In anticipation of further growth, Security First Insurance has added a fourth floor to its new planned headquarters at Ormond Crossings.

In doing so, the family-owned insurance company will be adding 33,000 square feet to its original building plan of a three-story, 100,000 square-foot building. The added space allows the headquarters to house an estimated 750 full-time employees, almost triple its current staff.

Melissa Burt DeVriese, chief administrative officer for Security First Insurance, said the growth of the building will not only affect the company, but the surrounding area as well.

“Ormond really is interested in growing Ormond Crossings and US 1 and improving that entrance into the city and I think us being there and all the improvements that will come with it will really help,” DeVriese said.

In April, the Ormond Beach City Commission approved a $285,00 economic incentive to support the construction of Security First Insurance's new headquarters in a 48-acre lot in Ormond Crossings. For the incentive, Security First Insurance agreed to add 285 jobs. With the added floor in the new building, the insurance company will be able to add more than that.

The fourth floor will also free up some room for a few more employee perks, such as extra break rooms, a gym and walking trails.

“It has given us the room to have those amenities that we wouldn’t otherwise have had,” said Frank Molinario, vice president of human resources at Security First Insurance.

The amenities for the building were decided by the employees themselves in a survey, to which 202 of them responded. The fourth floor serves to ensure that the designated common areas will not be compromised for office space.

DeVriese said she hopes to break ground in the fall as soon as the company closes on its selected 48 acres in Ormond Crossings. If the groundbreaking happens then, Security First Insurance’s new headquarters will be scheduled to open in January 2019.
