Police have reported another suspicious incident involving schoolchildren and a pickup truck. On Sept. 12, a child said two males tried to lure him to their truck as he rode his bicycle to school on North Ridgewood Avenue.
In the recent incident, three students said they were dropped off by the school bus about 4 p.m. on Sept. 23 at Live Oak Avenue and South Ridgewood Avenue. The students said they then saw a black, older truck driving recklessly and fast toward their location.
The vehicle then rapidly slowed down, and the driver rolled down the window and stared at them as he drove past.
The vehicle then turned into a driveway and did a U-turn. It sped toward their location a second time, and once again, the driver slowed down and stared at them as he passed.
The truck went around the block and came at them a third time but the students ran into a yard for safety. The homeowner said the truck took off at a high rate of speed and did not return.
The suspect is described as a white male, in his 40s, with very short hair (possibly a buzz cut) and facial stubble.
The vehicle is described as a “beat up,” black, older model pickup truck, possibly a Ford, with no hood. It has oversized tires, loud exhaust and the appearance of being spray painted.
Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the Ormond Beach Police Department at 248-1774 or 677-0731.
