If your child attends Tomoka Elementary School, you might have noticed the grounds recently got a facelift.

No, this wasn't the work of a paid gardener. The effort came directly from a local teen just trying to give back.

Jack Upchurch, along with the help of 14 of his fellow scouts, spent a day gardening and landscaping the school as a part of his Eagle Scouts project. According to the teen's mom, Sandy Upchurch, the principal and assistant principal were very pleased with the finished product.

"We are especially proud of Jack as he will be the first of the third generation of Eagle Scouts in John's family," she said in an email. "Just a wonderful family tradition that we are so proud our son is honoring."
