It’s not in the mail
5:23 p.m. — First Block of Marjorie Terrace
Fraud. The victim noticed several transactions on his mother’s checking account that neither or his mother had made. He has power of attorney. Most were made in nearby towns and one was at a nearby store for $81.75.
The victim said he sent in for a replacement debit card a week ago and the new card has not shown up in the mail so it may have been stolen from the mailbox. He said he will contact police if the card does not arrive.
He had called the bank to cancel the card and report the fraudulent charges.
Hurry before we run out of gas
3:34 p.m. — 100 Block of North Ridgewood Avenue
Operating With a Suspended Driver’s License. The officer saw a pickup truck speeding. The truck then turned onto another street, continued speeding and ran through a stop sign.
After being stopped, the suspect said the reason he was speeding and ran the stop sign was because he was about to run out of gas.
He was found to be operating with a suspended driver’s license and was arrested.
Due in court
1:30 p.m. — First Block of South Orchard Street
Driving with Suspended License and Possession of Marijuana. The officer was on an unrelated call when he saw an SUV pull into the driveway next door. He saw the driver get out and get into the passenger seat. Another person came out of the house and got into the driver’s seat.
The officer recognized the suspect in the passenger seat as someone he had recently assisted who had a suspended driver’s license.
The officer asked the other person why she would let the suspect drive the car without a license, and she said it was because the suspect had a court date.
There was a strong odor or marijuana so the officer searched the SUV and found marijuana and a grinder.
What’s the hurry?
5:10 p.m. — Intersection of Division Avenue and Yonge Street
Shoplifting. The officer reported to the scene of a traffic crash. The driver of one car appeared confused and first gave the officer a driver’s license that belonged to someone else and then found his own driver’s license. He also gave an explanation of the accident that did not match the damage to the cars.
The officer noticed a large amount of prescription bottles in the car. The suspect said he had five beers since noon and several prescription drugs.
When the suspect exited the car, the officer noticed he had his shoes on the wrong feet. He said he had left home in a hurry.
