Palm Coast man arrested after allegedly attacking, threatening officers

A Palm Coast man was arrested after a verbal disturbance ended with him threatening and hitting deputies on Nov. 11 in Flagler Beach.

The Flagler Beach Police Department responded to a disturbance call just before 9 a.m. in the 300 block of North 3rd Street between a homeowner and his roommate. When police arrived, the roommate had locked the homeowner out of the house and used a foam sealant on the doors, according to the arrest report.

The roommate was arguing with the homeowner through an open window, and the homeowner told police that the man had been threatening him. According to the report, the man appeared to be under some kind of delusion; when asked if he used drugs, the man said he took “psych drugs.”

As the officers attempted to force their way in the door, the man lunged for one of the officer’s belt from the  window, the report said. Another officer immediately pulled out his taser, but the man retreated further inside the house before it could be fired.

A third officer crawled into the open window and confronted the man, where there was a scuffle as the officer tried to subdue him, the report said. The man managed to punch the officer in the head.

During the confrontation, the man made several threats to the officers, but they managed to subdue the man shortly after, according to the report.

The homeowner declined to press charges, so the man was charged with battery of a law enforcement officer, two counts of threats of death/great bodily harm to a law enforcement officer, resisting with violence and resisting without violence.

He is currently being held without bond.

Man who ran from police charged with 10 felonies

A Palm Coast man who fled from police in the evening of Nov. 10 has been charged with 10 felonies and four misdemeanors.

The charges include six drug-related felonies, three fleeing and eluding related felonies, one tampering with evidence felony and four misdemeanors — two counts of resisting without violence, one marijuana possession of less than 20 grams and reckless driving, according to booking information.

The man was driving a Nissan northbound on U.S. Highway 1 near Kankakee Trail when a Flagler County Sheriff’s Office sergeant signaled with first his emergency lights, and then sirens, according to the arrest report. The Nissan accelerated and fled, eventually making its way to Hymon Circle with two officers following.

The report said that during the chase the man dumped a drink and multiple baggies out the window of the Nissan. The driver eventually hit a curb and went into the grass while turning onto South Bacher Street, the report said. The man fled the vehicle and ran off on foot.

One of the officers recognized the man and led officers to a nearby known associated address, the report said. The man was found inside the home attempting to hang himself; officers got him down but he was initially unresponsive.

Officers believed him to be faking, the report said, because he was tensing his muscles and reacted when his finger was pricked for a blood sugar check. He was taken to Advent Health in Palm Coast and later placed under Baker Act.

In the Nissan, officers found about one gram of fentanyl, seven grams of marijuana and less than one gram of crack cocaine. The man also told the deputy in the ambulance he had swallowed about 10 grams of MDMA, also known as ecstasy, while fleeing law enforcement.

He is currently held at the county jail, without bond.
