Correcting the record

Dear Editor:

I’d like to correct some misinformation as reported by the Observer. Dogs have not been allowed on the beach in Ormond Beach for 48 years.

The county took control of the beach 36 years ago and continued the ban of our best friends from the beach that the city of Ormond Beach enacted in June of 1975.  And, for a point of interest, Mayor Ernest Cassen, who the park of the southwest end of the Granada bridge is named for, voted to leave the dogs to enjoy the beach, but City Commissioner Charles Bailey, who the park at the northwest end of the bridge is named for, voted to ban our canine family members.
