SIDELINES: Seabreeze tops Mainland in in-school dual wrestling match

Bucs win boys and girls Five Star basketball championships; FPC boys soccer team finishes season with 16-5 record.

SANDCRABS WIN IN-SCHOOL MATCH

Seabreeze’s boys wrestling team defeated Mainland 42-32 in an in-school dual meet on Jan. 18 at the Sandcrabs’ gym.

The Sandcrabs jumped out to a 36-0 lead and clinched their first dual win of the season with a pin by Antonio Serrano at 150. Brogan Kelly (190), Luke Cloer (285), Evan Bobak (113) and William Sites (126) also recorded pins for Seabreeze.

Jeremiah Garcia (132), Aiden West (138), Isaac Simien (144), Jamison Pinyan (157) and Caleb Shealy won matches for Mainland. Simien, Pinyan, and Shealy won with pins, while West ended his match with a technical fall.

PIRATES WIN THREE TITLES

The Matanzas girls wrestling team took home three individual titles at the Moskowitz tournament last weekend in Lakeland. Mariah Mills won at 110, R’Cardenay Michel won at 115 and Tiana Fries won at 135. Jazlynn Golder (105), Kendall Bibla (145) and Ani Brown (235) were runners-up. Autumn Jarvis (120), Saiomy Cabrera (130) and Brooklyn Watt (170) all won their third-place matches. On the boys’ side, Michael Fries placed third at 144 and Doug Crutchley was fourth at 285.

FPC FINISHES SEASON AT 16-5

FPC’s boys soccer team defeated DeLand in a shootout in the District 2-7A semifinals on Jan. 25 at Daytona State College in Daytona Beach. After the teams remained tied at 1-1 through overtime, the Bulldogs won on penalty kicks, 5-4. Their season ended on Jan. 29 with a 7-0 loss to Lake Mary.

The Bulldogs (16-5) finished with their best record in nine years. They went 7-0 at home, collected 11 shutouts and had a 10-game unbeaten run.

BUCS BOYS, GIRLS WIN FIVE STAR

The Mainland boys and girls basketball teams won Five Star Conference tournament titles with the boys defeating New Smyrna Beach 61-42 in the title game and the girls defeating Spruce Creek 67-45 for the championship on Jan. 26. Anovia Sheals tied her season high with 32 points.
