A suspect has been arrested in connection to the March 16 shooting that left a 19-year-old Bunnell man critically injured.

Bunnell Police Department officers issued an arrest warrant for Antarius Zynell Henderson, 23, in connection to the shooting at East Drain Street. Police officers identified Henderson as a suspect through pole cameras the city had installed at the intersection of East Drain Street and Hymon Circle following two drive-by shootings in 2022, a BPD press release said.

“The cameras were needed because in most instances of violent crime, community members who witnessed the incident were often unwilling to speak with police, or reluctant to cooperate fearing retaliation from other community members,” BPD Chief David Brannon said.

The camera footage showed a fight break out between Henderson and another man, with others watching the fight. Henderson appeared to have lost the fight and began walking away to a silver Mercedes only to turn back and fire a handgun at the group at the corner, the press release said.

The 19-year-old victim — who was standing across the intersection, watching the fight — was shot twice, once in the armpit and the other in the abdomen, and he was flown to a trauma center, the press release said.

The victim's mother told BPD her son sustained "devastating internal injuries" that required several surgeries and the removal of one of the 19-year-old's kidneys, the press release said.

The other man involved in the fistfight also pulled a gun and began firing at Henderson, before handing the gun to a third person and running away. The third shooter fired several shots at Henderson before also leaving the scene.

The second and third shooters have since been identified, the press release said, but it did not name the suspects.

Based on witness interviews, the fistfight and following shooting is believed to be tied to a large fight in the neighborhood several weeks prior. Henderson was one of six people arrested in that fight, the press release said.

Henderson was picked up in east Palatka on March 22 and has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
