The end of April marked National Health Care Volunteer Week, and in honor of the holiday, Florida Hospitals throughout Volusia County recognized its no-pay workers.

“This special week presents an opportunity to celebrate the everyday people who accomplish extraordinary things through service,” said Daryl Tol, Florida Hospital Volusia-Flagler CEO. “These community members are essential to the healthcare team as they give of their time freely and ask for nothing in return.”

Florida Hospital Fish Memorial held a Volunteer Appreciate Tea April 23, for its 150-plus active volunteers, who worked more than 37,000 combined hours last year.

Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center held a luncheon April 24, at Oceanside Country Club, 75 N. Halifax Drive, to honor its 300-plus volunteers. One of the volunteers, Lillian Walsh, was recognized with the Honarary Award, for donating 44 years and 9,100 hours of service.
