Alyssa Bayliff awarded Student Athlete of the month by Ormond Beach Lions Club

The Ormond Beach Lions honored Alyssa Bayliff of Seabreeze High School as its Student Athlete of the Month for October. Her parents, Rick and Karen Bayliff, sister Amber Bayliff, and grandparents Tommy and Barbara Aikens, looked on proudly as she accepted the award from Lion President, Al Legg.

“It's a great privilege to be picked by the principle,” Bayliff said. “I've worked so hard, and it's an honor to be recognized as the athlete of the month.”

Bayliff has earned a number of honors as a member of Seabreeze’ track and cross country teams. She’s won the track and cross country rookie of the year, the Cross Country Coaches Award, track MVP and three Athlete of the Week awards. She also holds the school record in the 4 x 800 meter event.

Bayliff has a cumulative 4.3 grade point average. She has received two Academic Excellence Awards, the Meritorious Award, and she is a National Honor Society member.

Golfing for the youth

The Ormond Beach Police Athletic League is pleased to announce an opportunity for community members and businesses to assist with the enhancement of youth programs in the Ormond Beach community. OBPAL will host its annual golf tournament “Golfing for Youth” Saturday Nov. 8, at River Bend Golf Club.

The golf tournament is the major fundraiser for OBPAL and we hope you will join us in making this year’s event a success. Through active participation in Ormond Beach Police Athletic League programs, youth in the community are able to develop a foundation to make positive life choices.

Those interested can help the community continue programs for at-risk youth through a tournament sponsorship or by playing in the tournament. The tournament is an 18-hole scramble, where participants may pick their team or be paired with a foursome. The hole-in-one prize is a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle Sportster. The event kicks off with a 7:30 a.m. complimentary breakfast followed by an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The luncheon, door prize give away, 50/50 drawing and awards ceremony will be held at 12:30 p.m.

Potential sponsors can purchase a platinum sponsorship for: $1,000, gold for $500, silver for $300, a hole for $150 and just for a golf participant, $75. These all include different perks, according to the price of sponsorship. Call 676-3505.
