Are there changes coming to the city code?

To honor animal rights, the Ormond Beach City Commission has expanded on the concept of doggie dining: It’s now mandatory. No one will be allowed to eat an Ormond restaurant unless they bring a dog.

City officials believe the new law will make Ormond Beach famous for being friendly to animals, and could lure companies to town, to boost economic development.

One restaurant owner was concerned about seating; another about cleanliness. But city officials said, “Overcrowding and soiled floors are a small price to pay.”

For residents who don’t own dogs, the Humane Society will be on hand downtown for rentals. The cost is a $5 donation — no more than the cost of a tip, according to a press release from the Humane Society.
