Athletes take to the water and the road in YMCA triathlon

The Ormond Beach Family YMCA hosted the 10th Annual Tri-Y Triathlon June 9, which had approximately 175 participants.

Early Sunday morning, athletes lined up along the beach and waited for a horn, which would mark the start of the 10th-annual Tri-Y Triathlon.

More than 150 participants competed as individuals or on relay teams, and 23 individuals or teams finished the quarter-mile swim, 10-mile bicycle ride and three-mile run in less than an hour.

John Hovius, of Groveland, had the fastest unofficial time of 53 minutes, 59 seconds, and John Dodd, of Ormond Beach, had the second fastest unofficial time of 54:36.

The fastest male relay was Austin Cline, Jack Gonzalez and Doug Walker, with an unofficial time of 54:50.

The fastest mixed relay time was Kira Ball, Alec Hernandez and Dalton L'Heureux, with an unofficial time of 56:15.

The fastest female relay time was Liz Murphy, Joan Scully and Kate Sussman, with an unofficial time of 1:10:18.
