A rent increase forced Kyle Sheldon to relocate his card store. But the new space has its advantages.

The sign is still there, but the store is empty, its contents already set up across town.

KnT Sports Cards & Memorabilia, formerly located at 30 W. Granada Blvd. as Baseball Card Exchange, moved to 287 S. Yonge St. following a $400-per-month rent increase.

But the new location, according to store owner Kyle Sheldon, offers more foot traffic, which was one thing lacking at his old space, near the Halifax River bridge.

“Traffic-wise, I think I’ll be OK,” Sheldon said. “I see a lot more people get out of their cars and are shopping in the area. (On Granada), it was really hard to get out of (your car).”

The new location has on-site parking, more space and is cheaper to rent — all good things, Sheldon says, for his customers.

“They’re all happy,” he said of his regulars. “There was literally no parking at the old place.”

The larger space will also allow him to expand his business, he added, bringing in Yu-Gi-Oh! cards,  Magic the Gathering items and extra sports memorabilia.
