+ Ormond local returns, opens new health center

Scott Self grew up in Tymber Creek, served in the military for nine years and worked for a chiropractic office in Orange City. But now he’s back in town, and with Dr. Brett Wisniewski, he opened Aligned Integrative Health, a clinic at 136 N. Orchard St., Jan. 14.

“We are a functional medicine facility,” he said. “It’s kind of a hybrid between traditional medicine … (and) chiropractic therapy.’

Treating everything from sports injuries and diabetes to asthma and depression, Aligned specializes in “holistic” treatment. He and his partner have been practicing for the past three years.

“In medical school, they teach you how to treat everything under the sun,” he added. “So why not use all of it?”

+ ECN acquires Jacosoft, its third merger of 2012

The Emergency Communications Network LLC, a mass-notification company at 9 Sunshine Blvd., announced last month its acquisition of Houston-based Jacosoft, an emergency notification firm.

As part of the agreement, ECN acquired all of Jacosoft’s intellectual property and resources. The acquisition adds hundreds of new clients to ECN’s thousands of existing client communities.

The deal also included the transition of three sales representatives.

ECN has been around more than 20 years, and Jacosoft was the third acquisition it made last year. Last June, it acquired One Call Now’s Government Emergency Center / 911 clients. Then in July, it acquired CityWatch, another notification company.

Last year, ECN made more than 100 million notification calls and hired 30 new staff members.
