BIZ BUZZ: Ormond Beach ranks as a Top 10 city for auto mechanics

A data-analysis website ranked Ormond Beach the eighth-best place in the country for auto mechanics; the chamber brings on new members, hosts a ribbon-cutting; and, more.

Ormond Beach: A top city for auto mechanics?

Value Penguin, a website that specializes in “deep diving into data and analysis,” has rated the Ormond Beach-Daytona Beach-Deltona metro area as the nation’s eighth-best location for auto mechanics.

Beating out 400 other cities, the region was top-ranked for its median annual salary of $36,570. There are currently also 1,030 mechanic jobs in the area, according to the report, mined from Bureau of Labor Statistics research and other sources. Cost of living in the area was rated an 86 out of 100.

Considering all factors, the region was rated an overall 76 out of 100, with the Texarkana-Texarkana region of Texas and Arkansas ranking first, at an overall score of 93 out of 100.

The chamber is also still seeking volunteers for its Sept. 28 King of the Grill event. Grillers currently include 24 amateurs and eight local restaurants.

Dunn’s Attic to host benefit auction

The Hometown Business Alliance is partnering with the American Advertising Federation of Daytona Beach and Bids 4 Kids to host a silent auction fundraiser 5:30-8 p.m. Thursday Aug. 15, at Dunn’s Attic & Auction House, 136 W. Granada Blvd. All proceeds will benefit local education.

New speaker added to marketing expo roster

John Gagne, from First Data Independent Sales, has been added as a speaker at the Sept. 11 Marketing NEXT Expo, at the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort, 100 N. Atlantic Ave. He will speak about making the most of your credit card merchant account.

Tickets to the Expo are $99 until Aug. 30, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting first-responders. They increase to $129 after that.
