The Boys and Girls Clubs of Volusia/Flagler Counties received "Trail Mix To Go" healthy snack bags for their members on Friday, Nov. 20.
Each snack bag included a recipe for trail mix that gave the kids a project to complete over the Thanksgiving holiday, according to a press release. The bags are meant to encourage healthy eating and physical activity, and are the result of a partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs and AdventHealth.
“The trail mix concept of providing a way for our children to engage in a project of putting this healthy snack together is brilliant, and so needed during their time off for the Thanksgiving holiday," said Robin Markus, BGCVFC development director, in the press release.
AdventHealth volunteers packed over 260 bags for the clubs as part of its Week of Caring.
St. Brendan Catholic School seventh grade student Santino Cevallos won first place in the Ormond-by-the-Sea Lions Club's art contest and then also won first place in the Lions Club's District contest, which includes all of Central Florida.
Lions Clubs around the globe have been sponsoring an art contest in schools and youth groups for over three decades. The theme for this year's contest was "Peace Through Service." Over 50 posters were judged by OBTS Lions Club Members Aleta Dick and John Thomas, along with Ormond Beach Lions Club Member Trish Vevera, according to a press release.

The Ormond Beach Elks Lodge 2193 has sponsored the Fun Time Bowlers for eight years, and on Nov. 11, the bowlers presented an award to the Lodge.
Fun Time Bowlers is a bowling league for persons with mental challenges and disabilities, according to an email. The Lodge pays for weekly bowling, T-shirts and medals.
The seventh-annual Santa on Patrol program will take place on Dec. 7, 9 and 11.
Santa Clause and Ormond Beach police officers will be on a mission this December to put smiles on local children. According to a press release, Santa will be on patrol with toys and is on the lookout for good girls and boys. The program is part of the police department's outreach effort, and has been funded entirely by donations to local citizens and clubs.
Volusia County Library Services Director Lucinda Colee and her staff recently presented information on its programs to families at the Pierson Adult Literacy and Food Brings Hope KidsZone programs.
Twice a week from 4-7 p.m., Daytona State College teaches adult ESOL classes to parents while their children are involved with the FBH KidsZone programs, held at the San Jose Mission in Pierson. At the event, 25 people registered for library cards, which included 15 adults and 10 children, according to a press release.
The annual Christmas poinsettia sale, sponsored by the Father Eamonn Gill Council 13018 Knights of Columbus is now underway at St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church, located at 1000 Ocean Shore Blvd.
The sale will take place in the church parking lot at 3-5 p.m. on Saturdays and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sundays, until supplies last. Locally grown flowers ranging from 6-inch to 14-inch pots are available. Call 795-4260.
The Guild of the Museum of Arts and Sciences is celebrating its annual Festival of Trees by designing and selling Christmas Wreaths at the museum's gift shop, located at 350 S. Nova Road.

The 11th-annual Soles4Souls shoe drive is now underway.
Ormond Beach resident Matthew Monroe is collecting gently-used shoes for the nonprofit that helps distribute shoes to people in need around the world. Last year, Monroe collected a record of 1,400 pairs of shoes and he was recognized by the City Commission for his effortts.
The Monroes have placed a bin in front of their home for the collection of shoes. Donation pickups can also be arranged. Please call Cynthia Monroe at 678-525-3160.
