Bravo TV's celebrity stylist Jonathan Antin will give Daytona College students a priceless lesson in cosmetology.

Cosmetology students at Daytona College are in for a stylish treat.

Celebrity hair stylist Jonathan Antin will visit the school's cosmetology program Feb. 25-27 to give students a one-on-one lesson in hair.

Antin rose to fame on the Bravo TV network, where he starred in the reality series “Blow Out” and was a guest judge on “Shear Genius.” The stylist has worked with a number of high-profile celebrities, including Madonna, Drew Barrymore, Eva Mendes, Johnny Depp, Robert Downey Jr. and Tiger Woods.

“You can’t pay to have someone like that come in and give you six to eight hours of private sessions,” said Justin Berkowitz, vice president of operations at the college. “You can go to hair shows and meet and greet someone in a booth for a few minutes. We do it free for our students and alumni.”

Antin recently joined the cosmetology program’s advisory board, where Berkowitz said his experience rising through the ranks has made him a great addition.

“He’s a hair guy,” Berkowitz said. “He’s got a passion for beauty but he grew up like the students here at Daytona College. That’s why he’s on our board. He’s walked the ropes where our cosmetology students are. And look at him now.”

Antin will bring two guest cosmetologists with him, but Berkowitz said he doesn’t want to reveal their names just yet.

“He’s going to bring a little Hollywood to Ormond Beach.”

After about 30 years in the business, Antin said he only teaches where he feels a love and appreciation of special industry knowledge is desired. And Daytona College certainly makes the cut.

"I’m very picky about who I teach," Antin said. "When I went to visit Daytona College, I was just blown away that they invested the money they invested into their students. And that they were even willing to pay me to come out. I’m not cheap. They really wanted something different for their students, something special."

Antin said Florida's state cosmetology exam should be changed because it is only a written exam and barely requires any hands-on skill. He hopes to inspire students to go the extra mile to become a better hairstylist then what is required.

"Writing and doing are two different worlds," Antin said. "I felt like if this test was not putting an emphasis on cutting hair properly. So let's see if I can get that changed and give some of that inspiration to do the right thing in the beginning, in the middle and the end of a haircut. I really want to help take them to the next level."

During Antin’s visit, he will teach students the latest techniques in color and cut on live models. The first two days of his visit will be private sessions with students. On Thursday, Feb. 27, Antin will work with students and consult spa clients at The Spa at Daytona College.

On that day, the spa will offer a limited number of haircut and style appointments to residents during three time slots.
