Money supports Chamber, Team Volusia.

The City Commission approved expenditures for services at their Sept. 29 regular meeting at City Hall.

The city approved a service contract with Team Volusia Economic Development Corporation at a cost of $25,000. Most cities in the county are members.

Commissioner Troy Kent questioned why it was necessary to support Team Volusia when the city already has an economic development staff.

Economic Director Joe Mannarino said Team Volusia has brought visibility to Ormond Beach.

“We’re more on the map than ever before,” he said. “They were very successful in bringing the bakery to U.S. 1.” The bakery is a large manufacturing plant planned for North U.S. 1 that is expected to bring 300 jobs to the area.

City Manager Joyce Shanahan said the connection to Team Volusia allows the city access to Enterprise Florida, the state economic agency.

The city also renewed the annual contract with the Chamber of Commerce for $27,000. The city has been providing financial support to the chamber for promotional activities for 30 years. Visitor inquiries, including walk-ins, emails, and telephone calls, totaled 18,750, an increase of 1,954 over the previous year.
