Rainbow Bridge Walk planned to honor pets
The second annual Rainbow Bridge Walk is planned for March 26 at Fortunato Park, 1 John Anderson Drive. The festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. and the walk over the Granada Bridge starts at 7:30 p.m. The walk honors pets that have been lost, and walkers are asked to bring a current pet for the walk if they have one.
A donation of $10 is requested and walkers will receive a neon light, water and a goodie bag. Proceeds will benefit Sophie’s Circle Dog Rescue. Visit sophiescircle.com or email [email protected]. Send a photo of lost pet for a memorial to [email protected].
Former Ormond woman celebrates 100 years
Shonnie Gasner, who worked at Ormond Beach Travel Agency for 20 years beginning in the early 1970s, where she arranged Caribbean cruises and tours of Europe, celebrated her 100th birthday March 9 at her home in Daytona Beach Shores with children, grandchildren and friends.
Drawing on her background as a dance instructor in New York, she took up ballet in her 70s, becoming the oldest student at Ormond Beach European School of Ballet, according to her friend, Mary McLachlin. She is still dancing, playing bridge and entertaining, McLachlin said.
County offers VPK program
The School District of Volusia County will provide a free Voluntary Prekindergarten Program this summer for families of incoming kindergartners.
Registration will take place 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 5 at Tomoka Elementary School. The program will begin June 13. Breakfast and lunch are served free but transportation is not provided.
