Friday, Dec. 6

'A Northern Lights Christmas Gala'

When: 6-9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6; 1-8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8.

Where: The Casements, 25 Riverside Drive

Details: Enjoy a tree lighting in Rockefeller Gardens to kick off the gala on Friday, followed by food trucks, train rides, entertainment and appearances by Santa and Mrs. Claus. Stroll through the tree gallery inside the house. Free admission. Visit thecasements.com

Free family art night

When: 6-7:30 p.m.

Where: Ormond Memorial Art Museum, 78 E. Granada Blvd.

Details: Drop in to create an art project under the direction of OMAM's art instructor. This month's theme is the Grinch. Call 676-3216.

'The Grumps of Ring-A-Ding Town' and 'Bah Humbug! - Scrooge's Christmas Carol'

When: 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6-7; 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8

Where: Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center, 399 N. U.S. 1

Details: Presented by the Children's Musical Theater Workshop. Tickets cost $15 and include both shows.

Saturday, Dec. 7

OBMS Holiday 5K

When: 8:30 a.m.

Where: Ormond Beach Middle School, 151 Domicilio Ave.

Details: Join OBMS for its first-annual holiday 5K. Race will start and end at the school. Advance entry free costs $25 or $20 for OBMS students and staff. $30 on race day. Registration opens at 7:15 a.m. Contact Cathy Chiumento at [email protected]. Register at Racesmith.com

Family Festival of Trees at Museum

When: 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Where: Museum of Arts and Sciences, 352 South Nova Road

Details: This festival will take over the museum with fun activities for children and adults alike. Children can decorate Christmas cookies and cards, listen to Christmas stories, or visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus. There will be live music, entertainment, planetarium shows, a grandparents tea, food trucks and museum tours. Free for museum members or included with general museum admission price. Monday, Dec. 9

Civil Discourse

When: 5:30-6:45 p.m.

Where: Ormond Beach Regional Public Library, 30 S. Beach St.

Details: This will be a follow-up to the last Civil Discourse meeting on sea level rise and the call to action from a panel of experts and citizens. There will be an opportunity for those in attendance to present information or action steps relevant to the topic and smart growth. Only one representative may speak from an organization or group, if there is a wish to present information. This will be the last discourse of the year. Contact [email protected]

Tuesday, Dec. 10

Bird Watching 101

When: 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Where: Environmental Discovery Center, 601 Division Ave.

Details: Come meet Florida's birds and travel to nearby places to see them with the Halifax River Audubon. This new lecture and field trip series for adults will teach the tools and skills to help you birdwatch in the wild. This is the final of three sessions. Wednesday, Dec. 11

Dance lessons

When: 12:30-1:30 p.m.

Where: Ormond Senior Center, 351 Andrews St.

Details: On Wednesdays, the Council on Aging offers dance lessons provided by "Dance With Me" instructors Tom and Jo Sanders. Costs $2. Participants are welcome to stay afterward for a dance gala and social, from 2 to 4 p.m. featuring live big band music by The Blue Notes. Call 672-4159.

Thursday, Dec. 12

Halifax Genealogical Society

When: 1:30 p.m.

Where: Ormond Beach Regional Public Library auditorium, 30 S. Beach St.

Details: Learn how to assemble pieces of information from various sources to build your kinship case. The speaker will be Linda Vivian. Visitors welcome. Call 672-3806.
