Halifax Genealogical Society monthly meeting

Details: Professional genealogist Jeff Haines will present "Introduction to Using DNA Data as Genealogical Evidence." Explore the various types of DNA tests, the information they return and how data can be used to establish relationships and solve genealogical problems.Visitors welcome.

The Stars from The Temptations Coasters and Drifters Salute

The Great Backyard Bird Count

When: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: Environmental Discovery Center, 601 Division Ave.

Details: The city's Department of Leisure Services and the Halifax River Audubon are presenting this free community event celebrating birds. Halifax River Audubon will provide complimentary guided bird walks through Central Park's trails and official counting stations at the Joyce Ebbets Observation Pier and the EDC. Enjoy family-friendly bird-themed games on the lawn, crafts in the classroom and tours inside the facility. Learn more about birds and win prizes. Call 615-7081.

Free wool quilting lecture

When: 6:30 p.m.

Where: Ormond Beach Presbyterian Church, 105 Amsden Road

Details: The Racing Fingers Quilt Guild is sponsoring this lecture, which is open to the public. Lara Bosma, of Pretty Penny Precuts, will be bringing some of her wool appliqué projects to show. She will also teach about the appropriate notions and tools needed. Visit racingfingersquiltguild.com

The Basics of Planned Giving — How to Bolster Your Fundraising Program

Details: The Association of Fundraising Volusia/Flagler Chapter is hosting a luncheon presentation for fundraisers interested in learning more about bequest gifts, charitable gift annuities, life insurance gifts and more.
