Halifax Genealogical Society

Where: Ormond Beach Library, room 3, 30 S. Beach St.

Details: Have genealogy questions? Meet Halifax Genealogical Society members for individual help. Learn how to use free library databases and other resources in your genealogy research. Call 681-9422

'Hillbilly Jack'

When: 6-8 p.m.

Where: The Casements, 25 Riverside Drive

Details: Grab a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy this free concert, which is part of the city's Summer Sounds concert series. Refreshments available for purchase. 

Saturday, July 13

Tina Turner tribute: 'Simply the Best'

When: 7-9 p.m.

Where: Cypress Park at the Midtown Cultural and Education Center, 981 George W. Engram Blvd.

Details: This free tribute show captures the image, energy, stage presence, and voice of this rock diva. Soulful vocalists, a rhythm section and a horn section will perform hits like "What's Love Got To Do With It," "Proud Mary," "Private Dancer" and "We Don't Need Another Hero." Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Bring your own lawn chair. No coolers allowed. The Cypress Aquatic Center pool will also be open and have free admission during the concert.

Dive team to discuss artificial reefs

When: 11 a.m. to noon

Where: Ormond Beach Library, 30 S. Beach St.

Details: The Volusia County Reef Research Dive Team will show a short video and discuss artificial reefs and their positive impact on the environment. Reservations not required. Call the library at 676-4191, option 1, then 4.

Victorian Tea

When: 2 p.m.

Where: Lilian Place Heritage Center, 1000 S. Peninsula Drive

Details: Step back into the past with food like scones and clotted cream, pastries and teas. Includes a walkthrough tour of the museum. Costs $21.30, including tax. Call 256-4810.

Democratic club monthly meeting

When: 7 p.m.

Where: Red Lobster,  2625 W. International Speedway Blvd.

Details: Join the Democratic Club of Northeast Volusia County for its monthly meeting. If you would like to socialize or have dinner before the meeting, the room will be available at 5:30 p.m. All Democrats encouraged to attend.

Wednesday, July 17

Dance lessons

When: 12:30-1:30 p.m.

Where: Ormond Senior Center, 351 Andrews St.

Details: On Wednesdays, the Council on Aging offers free dance lessons provided by "Dance With Me" instructors Tom and Jo Sanders. Costs $2. Participants are welcome to stay afterward for a dance gala and social, from 2-4 p.m. featuring live big band music by The Blue Notes. Call 672-4159.

Canvas and Cocktails

When: 6-8 p.m.

Where: Ormond Memorial Art Museum, 78 E. Granada Blvd.

Details: Paint a turtle beach painting with Pat Spano. This class is designed for beginners. All supplies, beverages and instructions are included. Bring a snack and leave with a painting. Open to anyone over 21. Costs $38.50 for non-members. Museum members save 10%.

History Wine-down

When: 5:30-8:30 p.m.

Where: Lilian Place Heritage Center, 1000 S. Peninsula Drive

Details: Listen to special speaker News-Journal reporter and local author Mark Lane, who will discuss "Historic Downtown Daytona." History program begins at 6:30 p.m. There will be drinks, music and food. Costs $5 for members and $10 non-members. Call 256-4810.
