Halifax Genealogical Society meeting

When: 1:30 p.m.

Where: Ormond Beach Library, 30 S. Beach St.

Details: Join Annette Burke Lyttle as she discusses "How Research Plans Can Up Your Genealogical Game." Learn the steps and techniques of research planning. Visitors welcome. Follow up by attending the genealogical research assistance event at the library in room 4 from 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14, to find help discovering your family history. Call 672-3806.

Seaside Decorative Painters

When: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Luncheon and floral demonstration

When: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: St. James Episcopal Church, 38 S. Halifax Drive

Pawpaw chapter field trip

When: 11 a.m.

Where: Cracker Creek, 1795 Taylor Road

Details: Join the Pawpaw chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society for an educational field trip to Cracker Creek in Port Orange. The group will board a pontoon boat with a season guide to explore and learn of the ecology that makes up Spruce Creek River. Costs $10. Bring a picnic lunch. Halifax River Audubon

When: 7 p.m.

Where: Sica Hall, 1065 Daytona Ave.

Details: Learn why the Indian River Lagoon matters and how to help preserve it from Duane De Freese, executive director of the lagoon's council and its national estuary program. The meeting is open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
