Saturday, Aug. 18

Benefit for homeless animals

When: 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: LPGA International Golf Club, 1000 Champions Drive

Details: Help raise money for the Halifax Humane Society by participating in Neighbors Helping Neighbors' golf benefit for homeless animals. Neighbors Helping Neighbors is a local group of business professionals. Shotgun starts at 8 a.m. Visit halifaxhumanesociety.org/events/index to register. 

Urban watercolor sketching class

When: 9 a.m. to noon 

Where: Ormond Memorial Art Museum, 78 E. Granada Blvd.

Details: Take this class with instructor Stacey Fletcher to learn the technique of urban sketching, where students will learn how to create a cohesive image using lines and then watercolors to enhance it. Fletcher is an assistant professor of studio arts at Daytona State College. All supplies are provide. Class is open to everyone 16 and up. Costs $70 for members and $76 for non-members. Sunday, Aug. 19

Discussion on clergy endorsing political candidates

When: 2:30-4 p.m.

Where: Congregation B'nai Torah, 403 North Nova Road

Details: Listen as Rabbi Merrill Shapiro, immediate past president of the National Board of Trustees of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, leads a discussion on preventing or permitting clergy and houses of worship endorsements of partisan political candidates. This is part of an adult education event at the congregation and is free and open to the public. Call 672-1174.

Tuesday, Aug. 21

Overnight oats workshop

When: 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Where: Florida Health Care Plans Wellness and Education Center, 471 S. Nova Road

Details: Registered Dietitian Mary Beth Curtis will lead a free workshop to discuss the nutritional benefits of oats. Participants will be able to create their own batch of overnight oats to bring home in a mason jar. Oats, fruits and nuts will be provided. Open to the public.

Welcome reception for new fire chief

When: 6-7 p.m.

Where: Ormond Beach City Hall Atrium, 22 South Beach St.

Details: The city of Ormond Beach is inviting the public to help staff welcome new Fire Chief Richard Sievers. He has almost 40 years of experience in the field. He officially began working for the city on Aug. 13. 

Wednesday, Aug. 22

Awana club

When: 6 p.m.

Where: Providence Church, 1151 W. Granada Blvd.

Details: Join Providence Church's awana club, a free program open to children 3 years old up to fifth grade. It is a scripture-based program that promotes Bible literacy and offers an approach for early evangelism and discipleship through songs and games. The club will meet until May of next year.
