Aug. 3

Movies on the Halifax presents: "Paddington 2"

When: 8:30-10:30 p.m.

Where: Rockefeller Gardens, 26 Riverside Drive

Details: Join Ormond Beach's Department of Leisure Services for a movie next to the Halifax River. Free event. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket. Refreshments available for purchase.

Aug. 4

British Airwaves band

When: 6-9 p.m.

Where: One Daytona, 1 Daytona Blvd.

Details: Performing some of the greatest hits from UK artists, the British Airwaves band will play live at Victory Circle, the center stage of One Daytona. Free event. Visit ONEDAYTONA.com. 

Aug. 5

Happy Wanderers Walking Club

When: 7:30 a.m.

Where: Ormond Beach Library, 30 S. Beach St.

Details: Join the Happy Wanderers Walking Club in a 5k-10k walk, starting at the library. Race begins at 8 a.m. Event is open to the public. Participation costs $3. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Visit happywanderersfl.org or call 256-2160 or 214-3890.

Volusia to become Purple Heart County

When: 9:30 a.m.

Where: Volusia County Council Chambers, 123 W. Indiana Ave., DeLand

Details: Come support Purple Heart veterans as the Military Order of the Purple Heart Volusia County Chapter 316 presents a plaque before the Volusia County Council designating the county as a "Purple Heart County." All veterans and public are invited. Call Senior Vice Commander Rod Phillips at 690-9553.

OBPD's 35th-annual National Night Out "Hawaiian Luau"

When: 5-8 p.m.

Where: Nova Community Center, 440 N. Nova Road

Details: The Ormond Beach Police Department will join over 15,000 communities across the nation celebrating National Night Out with a themed Hawaiian luau. This free event will feature a Hawaiian fire show, hula dancers, bounce houses, karate demos, music and more. Local favorite vendors like Schmancy Pops and Krispy Kreme will also be in attendance. Aug. 9

Second-annual Hearts and Arts event

When: 5-8 p.m.

Where: Temple Beth-El, 579 N. Nova Road

Details: This event features a show and sale of work by local female artists, presented by the Volusia County Women's Network. Proceeds will go to Family Renew Community to benefit homeless families with children. Admission costs $10 in advance or $15 at the door, and includes hors d'oeuvres, wine and champagne. LUVU Band

When: 6-9 p.m.

Pawpaw Meeting and summer plant swap

When: 7 p.m.

Where: Piggotte Community Center, 504 Big Tree Road, South Daytona

Details: This month's Florida Native Plant Society Pawpaw Chapter's meeting features a Florida native plant, the Coontie, as well s other cycads, which Tom Broom will teach about. The summer plant swap sign up will also open at the meeting. Contact Sande Habali at 235-0524.
