A pie-eating contest and chili cook-off might not be the first things people think of when they think of Halloween, but for Christ Presbyterian Church’s not-so-spooky take on the holiday, those were just two of the attractions which made their festival such a treat for local kids.
Sponsored by the Youth of Christ Presbyterian, the Sunday, Oct. 28 celebration, at 1035 W. Granada Blvd., featured a bounce house, a trunk-or-treat and carnival booths.
The youth group raised about $350 from the event.
“It turned out great — we had way more people than we thought we would,” said Angela Graziotti, youth director. “The tickets are only 25 cents a piece, so play a game — only 25 cents. We almost sold about 1200 tickets."
The church was going for a carnival vibe for this year's event, she added. There were games, prizes, candies and even a chili cook-off, which was won by James White, a retired pediatrician, out of 11 total contestants.
