Having tripled its staff the past six years, Chanfrau & Chanfrau — run by William Sr., William Jr. and Kelly Chanfrau — is now nearing 1,000 active cases,

The Chanfrau family doesn’t just live in Ormond Beach. They have deep roots here.
William Chanfrau, who opened the Chanfrau & Chanfrau law firm in 1976, in Daytona Beach, followed in the footsteps of his grandmother, who moved to Volusia County in the 1930s to become Florida’s first female court reporter. He now works with his two children, William Jr. and Kelly, who grew up here and attended St. James Episcopal School before moving on to what is now Ormond Beach Middle.
All three Chanfraus, plus William Sr.’s mother, also attended Seabreeze High School. William, William Jr. and Kelly each then went on to attend Florida State University and Stetson Law.
“It was always my goal to someday practice law in the Daytona Beach area with my family,” said William Chanfrau Jr., who’s been with the practice 12 years. Kelly has been there since 2010.
The company’s business is focused in Volusia County and Flagler, where a second office was opened two years ago.
Together at Chanfrau & Chanfrau, the family works side by side on a daily basis — and they do so successfully. Last month, Kelly Chanfrau — who added labor and employment services to the personal injury-focused firm when she came on board — and her father were selected as Florida Super Lawyers. William Sr. was also elected to the Florida Justice Association’s board of directors last month.
The firm has been growing, as well. In the past six years, its number of employees has tripled, to 17. The company is also currently nearing 1,000 active cases.
“We get to practice law together on a daily basis,” Chanfrau said of working with his dad and sister. “We know each other very well, and our strengths and weaknesses complement each other.”
Although William Jr. has been practicing law for 16 years, it’s nice, he says, to be able to talk through cases with his father, who has been practicing since 1972. “You cannot replace his experience,” Chanfrau said.
“I can honestly say that my dad and I have never had an argument at work,” he added. “It’s been a very positive experience.”
