The city's ordinance prohibits the sale or display of synthetic drugs. Plus, a Hand Avenue construction update and Votran detours.

BY THE OBSERVER STAFF

The commission unanimously voted to approve an ordinance prohibiting the sale or display of synthetic drugs in Ormond Beach.

Synthetic drugs are usually marketed as a safer alternative. They’re chemically produced to mimic or enhance the effects of natural drugs.

Side effects of synthetic drugs can include chest pains, elevated blood pressure, panic attacks, extreme paranoia and even sleep deprivation-induced psychosis.

Hand Avenue construction continues

Utility work from Stratford Place through the midpoint of Oakbrook Drive along Hand Avenue, planned to be completed by Dec. 3, according to the city. The construction on this portion of the project will then move to road work.

The road work will take about three weeks, and traffic patterns are expected to  fluctuate.

Flagging crews will be directing local traffic, which, at times, will only enter or exit from one direction, either the east or west.

Votran routes detoured

The 22nd-annual HOme for the HOlidays Nighttime Parade Dec. 8, begins at 6:30 p.m. and Votran routes 3, 18 and 19, as well as the Route 3 Night will be affected.

Parade route streets are closed one hour prior to the parade, and additional side streets may also be closed.
