Families and friends gathered last weekend in Rockefeller Park for a free movie on the river.

Despite somewhat damp conditions at Rockefeller Gardens last Friday night, Sept. 7, families and friends strolled into the riverside park with chairs and blankets to watch a free showing of “Yogi Bear,” the month’s featured Movie on the Halifax, sponsored by the city’s Leisure Services Department and The Casements Guild.

The showing marked the organization’s 3rd birthday, according to Gina Hart, program assistant at The Casements, and a cupcake picnic was held to match the movie’s theme. Children ate popcorn and rollerbladed on the winding sidewalks, while adults mingled and watched the changing colors of the sky after sunset. An oversized screen and sound system were set up on the terrace for viewing. The sky went dark. And then the park was cast in movie glow.

Movies on the Halifax is held every first Friday of the month, weather permitting.
