Music from Five O’ Clock Charley buzzed in the background, as vendors set up their tents and tables in the City Hall courtyard, for Ormond Beach’s 21st-annual Picnic on the Plaza.

The Labrador Retriever Rescue of Florida, Halifax Humane Society, the Volusia County Turtle Patrol and the Garden Club of Ormond Beach were just a few of the organizations on hand to celebrate the 43rd Earth Day and, soon, the courtyard was packed with students and pets and face-painting clowns.

The Ormond Beach Garden Club gave away flowers. And Ormond Beach Elementary School’s Lori Strasser led her first-grade class around the grounds, as they licked snowcones and pet dogs the Halifax Humane Society brought along to soak up the sun.
