Golf balls, not bombs, please

9:05 a.m. — First Block of Tomoka Oaks Boulevard. Vandalism. The officer was dispatched to a golf course in reference to a significant amount of vandalism that happened the night before.

Surveillance cameras showed that, at 10:30 p.m., about seven suspects walked through the parking lot of the country club. The officer noted that the surveillance was of “terrible” quality, and it was “extremely hard” to identify any of the individuals, but they appeared to be young males. No vandalism was shown on the video.

The caller said they found three plastic bottles with tin foil attached to them on the No. 15 green. The office noted they appeared to be from homemade bombs, and they looked like they had melted rather than exploded. None of the bottles had any significant amount of chemicals.

There was burned grass on the No. 15 green. Two windows were broken out and a water fountain was pushed over at the nearby bathroom. Yard marker signs and plastic chairs were damaged on the driving range. Total damage was estimated at $2,700.

Sorry, burglarizing the wrong car

7:57 a.m. — 300 Block of South Atlantic Avenue. Burglary of Conveyance. An officer was flagged down in reference to a female suspect who had burglarized two vehicles and was seen walking behind a residence. The victim said that when she left her motel room and walked over to her vehicle, she observed the suspect sitting in her passenger seat and wrapped up in a blanket. The suspect then got out of the car and said, “Sorry, I got in the wrong car.”

The suspect then sat in another car. The owner of that car then came outside, and the suspect got out and walked into the backyard of a residence. The owner described her as being in her 20s with brown hair in a ponytail, and she had a small baby carriage.

The first victim said the suspect stole her camera from the car. The second victim said she stole his Harley-Davidson baseball cap, a Zippo lighter and sunglasses.

The officers checked the area with negative results. Motel surveillance video showed the suspect going back and forth between cars shortly after 7 a.m.  Several business cards that did not belong to the victim were found in the first car and were placed into evidence.

Victim doesn’t buy into warranty scam

5:35 p.m. — First Block of Angle Falls Circle. Information. The victim said he received a call from someone claiming to be from Dealer Services. The suspect told him that his warranty on his vehicle was expired and asked if he would like to purchase an extended warranty.

The victim knew his warranty was still good, so he told the suspect he would call his dealership. The suspect said he was the underwriter for the warranty and that the dealer wouldn’t know anything about the warranty.

The victim called the dealership and found that his warranty was still good and the dealership said the call was a scam. The victim said he just wanted the police to know about it and doesn’t know how they got his phone number because it is unlisted.

The caller ID said “Dealer Services.”
