Cut out the middleman ... the customer
5:28 p.m. — 300 Block of West Granada Boulevard
Dealing in Stolen Property and Grand Theft. An investigation showed that the suspect, a store employee, picked up a package of chicken breasts and took them to the register of the grocery store. The suspect then keyed in a refund for the item for $17.98.
Later, the suspect keyed in a seafood item with no customer present for $15.54 and meat for $16.71. Refunds for several other items were also made.
The suspect also keyed in refunds for receipts found in a garbage can.
Over two months, the suspect made 24 fraudulent returns for a total of $365.71.
All of the transactions were recorded on video and the store manager provided paperwork with the details. The suspect was arrested.
Tricky refund
3:31 p.m. — 1500 Block of West Granada Boulevard
Dealing in Stolen Property. Video showed the suspect take a T-shirt and package of underwear and place them into a store bag. They had the same UPC code as a receipt she had. The suspect took the items to the return desk and produced the receipt which she said she got from a friend.
After receiving the cash, she went back into the store and placed a Bluetooth hands-free speaker phone in her purse. She was stopped at the door, taken to the office and later arrested for theft.
Should stick to water
6:59 p.m. — 800 Block of South Atlantic Avenue
Theft. The suspect entered the restaurant and sat at the bar ordering glasses of water. After awhile, the staff asked if he was going to order anything, and if not, he needed to leave.
The suspect then ordered a spinach dip appetizer for $8.95 and a glass of Arrogant Bastard beer for $6. When finished, he was presented with the bill, but he said he couldn’t pay. The manager said he had done that in the past.
The suspect told the officer that he had lost his wallet. The officer gave him a few chances to have someone come and pay the bill but he was unsuccessful. He was arrested for theft and given a trespass notice.
The suspect’s backpack was stored at the police department for safekeeping.
Christmas spirit?
10:52 a.m. — First Block of Big Buck Trail
Theft. The victim said that overnight someone stole one of her Christmas decorations. She had a new type of Christmas light system that projected lighting onto the entire house from a small projector in the yard. She had purchased it for $40.
There were no security cameras in the area. She said she had a motion light that should have been activated.
