Alcohol and automobiles; a missing motorcycle; and high-steaks thievery

Pitcher this: “I know I already failed”
2:36 a.m. -- 800 Block of Nova Road. Drunk Driving. An Ormond Beach police officer working an outside detail inside the Rockin’ Ranch approached the defendant right around closing time. The defendant was sitting along the side of the dance floor rail, chugging a pitcher of beer. The officer informed the defendant the bar was closing, and the defendant said he needed one more minute to finish his pitcher. The officer said the defendant continued to chug until the pitcher was completely empty. The officer warned the defendant not to drive, and saw him leave with what appeared to be a sober friend. The officer made a routine check of the perimeter of the building, several minutes later, and noticed the defendant get into his car and drive away. The officer pulled the defendant over and asked him how many pitchers he had drank. The defendant said he couldn’t remember, but it was a lot. Another officer arrived on scene and took over the investigation, including the field sobriety test, which the defendant agreed to. After the first test, the defendant told the officer, “I already failed. Why are we doing this?” The defendant agreed to one more test, after which he said, “Just end this. You are messing with me. I know I already failed.” The defendant was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence.

Lost and found ... and towed motorcycle.
12:39 a.m. -- Intersection of Airport Road and Bear Creek Path. Information. An Ormond Beach man told a police officer his motorcycle had been stolen from a side road near Airport Road and Bear Creek Path. He parked there approximately 11:10 p.m., he told the officer, and when he returned, at 12:15 a.m., the bike was gone. The man filled out a statement, was given a Victim’s Rights Pamphlet and a case number. While transporting the man back to his residence, the officer remembered seeing a motorcycle matching the description. He had another officer check the location and verify the motorcycle belonged to the man, which it did. In the process of identifying the motorcycle, it was discovered the man’s license was suspended. The man called his insurance company and had the motorcycle towed to his residence.

Meat me at the market
5:53 p.m. -- 500 Block of Nova Road. Shoplifting. A loss-prevention officer at Publix notified the Ormond Beach Police Department of a theft. He told the police the suspect walked into the store and looked suspicious, so he followed him as he wandered throughout the store. The loss-prevention officer said he watched as the suspect went to the meat department, selected three packages of prime rib steaks and placed them down the front of his pants. The suspect then left the store without paying for the meat in his pants. The loss-prevention officer confronted the suspect outside of the store, and the suspect gave him one of the packages. A second suspect approached on bike, and the two suspects left with the two remaining packages of steak.
