Sept. 25

There’s a reason for shredders

6:20 p.m. — 200 Block of Cumberland Avenue. Information. The victim said she received a letter from a check cashing company, saying that someone had cashed a check from her business and it did not go through. She was told that she owned them the amount of the check, $670, and a return check fee of $30.

The victim said she had a business but it was closed a couple of years ago. She said she recently cleaned out her office, and put clothing, paperwork and check books into a black plastic bag. She placed the bag in a garbage can to be picked up.

She said she didn’t realize how big of a mistake that was until now. She was not sure how many check books were placed in the trash.

The check cashing company said they would compile a packet of information on the incident for law enforcement.

Sept. 27

Take a tip

10:14 p.m. — 200 Block of Cardinal Drive. Theft. The police officer responded to the miniature golf business in reference to a theft. The victim said a white male, wearing shorts and flip-flops, stole the tip jar off the counter and ran behind the closed businesses on South Atlantic Avenue. The officer checked the area, but did not see the suspect.

The victim found the tip jar behind a business. It was dusted for fingerprints with negative results.

The victim said there is a video camera but they are having trouble accessing the video.

Try, try again

3:15 p.m. — 1500 Block of West Granada Boulevard. Theft. The suspects left the store without paying for two pairs of yoga pants. In the parking lot, they found a miscellaneous receipt and plastic bag. The reentered the store and attempted to return the pants with the receipt.

After being denied, the suspects went to the paint department and selected a brush set and one can of paint. They then attempted to return those items.

They were stopped by security. One of the suspects met the criteria for being released with a notice to appear in court, but the other suspect, who had two charges of failure to appear in another state, was transported to Volusia County Branch Jail. Both were charged with theft.

Sept. 28

Oops, wrong address

7:06 a.m. — 200 Block of South Atlantic Avenue. Suspicious Incident. The officer responded to a motel in reference to failure to pay a taxi driver.

The taxi driver said that when the suspect’s friend took out money to pay the $21 fee, the suspect grabbed it and put it in his pocket.

The suspect appeared intoxicated and kept yelling profanities as customers entered the motel.

It was learned that the suspect and his friend were at the wrong motel.

After the suspects paid the fare, the officers transported them to the right motel. A relative at the motel said they would take care of them, because of their intoxication.

The suspect did not listen to the relative, and would not calm down, yelling profanities in the lobby. He was arrested for disorderly intoxication.
