Costello hopes to serve in the House for eight years.

Former mayor and state representative Fred Costello is glad the campaign for state representative, District 25, is over.

“I hated it. I despise campaigning,” he said at Republican headquarters on Nova Road on election night.

As a dentist, he said, he is trained to do good, quality work, and let the work stand for itself.

“As a public servant, unfortunately, we have to go out there and beat the drum,” he said. He would much prefer to simply let people know what he wants to accomplish, show his record, and let the people vote for him if they agree with what he stands for.

He won the race with 59.43% of the vote. He said he wanted to thank voters for giving him the opportunity to serve.

City Commissioner Troy Kent, who won the Zone 2 race with 68.8% of the vote, said he enjoyed getting out on the campaign trail for the first time in nine years. Kent was first elected to the Ormond Beach City Commission in 2003. He said he was able to learn the needs and concerns of the residents, and also find out how they believe the city is doing.

“It was exciting and invigorating to get out and knock on doors and talk to the constituents,” he said.

While watching the returns at Grind Gastropub & Kona Tiki Bar with supporters on election night, he said he was honored to represent Zone 2.

“I promise to continue to work hard,” he said. “I won’t let the residents down. I will give them good, sold representation.”

Costello said he hopes the voters send him back in two years and also in four years.

“I hope to serve eight years in the Florida House, just as I served eight years as mayor,” he said.  “At the end of eight years I hope we can look back and feel like I made a difference.”

With all precincts reporting, Costello had 37,866 votes. His opponent, Democrat Noel Cheryl Bickford, had 40.57% of the vote with a total of 25,849 votes.

Kent won with 2,073 votes. His opponent, Dann Dragone, had 31.2% with 940 votes.

Ormond Beach resident Kathy Weston had 52.25% and 77,299 votes in her race for circuit judge in the seventh judicial circuit. Her opponent, Adam Warren, had 47.75% and 70,640 votes.
