The parking lot was full for the soft opening July 24 of the new Sam’s Club, located on the south side of LPGA Boulevard east of Interstate 95.

Before the opening, a ribbon cutting by the Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce included a deejay from Brock Entertainment who entertained the crowd of employees and invited guests. Several dignitaries were on hand, including County Chairman and former Ormond Beach Mayor Ed Kelley, who said he has had a Sam’s Club card since 1992.

“I’m not going to miss driving to Daytona from Ormond Beach,” he told the crowd.

The new store has replaced the one on Beville Road in Daytona Beach.

Sam’s Club is membership based. Call 386-760-3330 or visit www.samsclub.com/club/daytona-beach-fl-sams-club/8138.

United Way names chairwoman

The United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties has announced that Rene Bell Adams, of Ormond Beach, is their new board chairwoman as of July 1. Bell Adams, marketing director for the law firm Chanfrau & Chanfrau, has served on the board for six years.

“I am thrilled to be able to continue to roll-up my sleeves and contribute to our amazing organization in any capacity in which I am needed,” she said.

She said she was first involved with United Way while working for Leo Burnett Advertising in Chicago. Originally from Ormond Beach, she returned permanently in 2005.

Bell Adams said United Way focuses on measurable outcomes.

“Every organization supported by the United Way must have demonstrable results showing how it contributes to solving financial, health or educational challenges in our very own community,” she said.
