Nine employees at the Daytona Beach International Airport have been recognized by the American Association of Airport Executives for excellence, according to a press release.
The AAAE recognized the airport with a Digicast Excellence in Airport Training award for training completed in 2019. Airport training is led by Training
Coordinator Dulce Ayala, and this award signifies airport employees have completed a specified amount of federally-mandated airport-specific and continuing education training using Digicast's training system. Additionally, Airport Security Coordinator Ricky Burts completed the airport certified employee security program.
Lastly, the airport's Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting team members Battalion
Chief Stephen Luciano, Lt. Matt Monk, Lt. Bill Whalen, Lt. James Gray, Jeff Brown, Frank Fusco and Ed Jurgensen all received the airport master firefighter designation.
“Continuous training is a priority at Daytona Beach International Airport,” said Airport Director Karen Feaster in the press release. “Passengers can feel confident knowing many of our employees have been recognized for their ability to handle the responsibilities for airport and airfield safety.”
Friday, Dec. 11, marked the last day of the Ormond Beach Police Department's seventh-annual Santa on Patrol program.
On three dates this months, Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and OBPD officers were on a mission to greet local children. Santa was on patrol with toys and looking for good boys and girls in the community. The annual program is part of the department's outreach effort and was funded by donations from local citizens and clubs.
The Association of Fundraising Professionals Volusia/Flagler Chapter celebrated National Philanthropy Day by presenting awards to local philanthropists, according to a press release.
The Nov. 19 virtual event, sponsored in part by James Moore and Co., recognized the following champions: the Gemberling and Miller Memorial Foundation, which partnered with the FUTURES Foundation to provide children with scholarships; Chuck and Mary Ellen Early, longtime supporters of Family Renew Community; Elizabeth King, a leader at the Peabody Auditorium and Peabody Auditorium Foundation; former Daytona Beach Police Chief Craig Capri who launched the Officer Friendly program at the Early Learning Coalition of Flagler and Volusia Counties; and Michael Shayeson, a volunteer with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Volusia/Flagler Counties.
Additionally, Sheryl Cook of Tom Cook Jeweler was named Corporate Philanthropist of the Year for her lifelong commitment to Easterseals Northeast Central Florida. The late Patricia Culler was posthumously awarded Philanthropist of the Year for her work with the Halifax Humane Society. Culler died in October, and previously dedicated 30 years on the HHS Board of Directors.
The first Prince of Peace Council of Catholic Women Christmas photo brought some of the 123 members together for the start of a new tradition.
The group is dedicated to "uniting women in spiritual, social and service activities for the betterment of our community," according to a press release. The parish chapter is part of the National Council of Catholic Women with a membership of thousands who host fundraising events, social activities and leadership training to promote church, community, family, as well as international, legislative and organizational needs.
The council invites interested women to join them at 6:30 p.m. every second Tuesday of the month at the Prince of Peace Social Hall, located at 600 S. Nova Road. Call Lauren at 898-3585 or Linda at 212-3533 for more information.
