Having closed its Christmas production of The Nutcracker Nov. 29-30, the Daytona State College Dance Theater is now prepping for its end-of-year recitals, to be held 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, inside of the school’s theater.

“I’ve been dancing for only about two years and fell completely in love with it,” Ashley King said. “I did musical theater before, and I’m also a classical opera singer.”

But other dancers, like Sarah Graff, began performing at much younger ages.

“I did ballet most of my life, from 5 years old to 17,” Graff said. She’s been part of Dance Theater for a year.

“We absolutely love the Dance Theater,” Graff added. “Can’t say enough good things about it.”

According to Kevin Veiga, the school’s dance instructor, the end-of-semester recital will encompass a variety of dance styles, from ballet to jazz and modern. The choreography was created by adjunct faculty member Carla Lester,

The show is free and open to the public.
