Lights, camera, action!

The fourth-annual Top That Red Hat luncheon and fashion show was recently hosted by the Domestic Abuse Council. More than 140 community members attended as the stage in The Palmetto Club in Daytona Beach was transformed into something from the 1940s era.

Using clothes from the council's thrift shop, community leaders walked as models up and down the runway with everything from jeans to fancy evening gowns. Their stage was adorned with travel trunks, a bicycle built for two and movie posters from the 1940s and 50s. Entertainers sang period music to set the mood, while “cigarette ladies” circulated amongst the tables selling raffle tickets.

Cheryl Fuller, Ormond Beach resident and CEO of the Domestic Abuse Council shared that, last year, local newspapers ran 139 articles that were related to domestic violence, and that there were 3,934 domestic violence offenses in Volusia County as reported by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
