Father Lopez, Junior League get hustling, bowling for a cause

Father Lopez hosted the Girls on the Run 5K last Saturday. The Junior League of Datyona Beach also hosted another run the same day, at LPGA.

Girls from Father Lopez Catholic High School joined more than 200 female students, ages 8 to 13, from nine other schools throughout the district Saturday, Dec. 8, to participate in the Girls on the Run 5K, which was meant to help develop spirituality and self-esteem.

Girls had been training since September for the event, which was founded in 2005.

The Junior League of Daytona Beach also hosted a run. The Best Foot Forward 5K was held Saturday, at LPGA, with proceeds benefiting the purchase of school supplies for more than 100 local children.

Next year, on Jan. 12, the Junior League will also host its third-annual Bowling with the Boys event, to raise funds for single mothers and their children.
